TOWN OF BABYLON, NY -Five people were charged Saturday night with selling e-liquid nicotine and kratom, a herbal extract believed to act on opioid receptors, to an undercover agent under 21 in the Town of Babylon, Suffolk Police said.The arrests followed an investigation of 19 business prompted by community complaints.

Shajjad Sharif, of Dix Hills, a 28-year-old employee at the Express gas station at 1901 Deer Park Ave. in Deer Park was arrested and charged with sale or distribution of kratom to minors, police said.

The following people were arrested and charged with sale of cigarettes or liquid nicotine to people under 21 years of age:

  • Gouran Sharma, 30, of Richmond Hill, an employee at Conoco Gas Station on 1310 Sunrise Highway in Copiague
  • Nicolas Assaly , 65, of West Islip an employee at Mike’s Super Citgo on 675 Route 27 in West Babylon
  • Ajaz Rahman, 25 of Dix Hills an employee at Mobil Gas Station on 2111 Deer Park Ave. in Deer Park
  • Liaquat Ali, 64 of East Farmingdale an employee at BP Gas Station on 367 West Sunrise Highway in West Babylon
